The star has handed over the entirety of his £25k honor cash to the MVT, which functions to preserve the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

The star was given the cheque on mid-October as his latest record the album was chosen as the outstanding release of the previous year.

The musician has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the vital role grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the region, and further afield, when I was just getting going," said Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these locations have permanently closed – about 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Recently, top acts like Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its initiatives to help venues survive, by adding a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which supports independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, collecting more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist numerous small stages across Britain.

The donation supported spaces that were facing imminent closure due to difficulties arising from flooding, blazes and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Other venues obtained financial assistance in upgrading facilities and technical equipment that helped performers and audiences.

"The concept that revenue from concerts in large arenas helps the independent spots, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has said.

Fender is not the first artist to donate his award winnings to worthy causes.

When Pulp received the prize in the mid-90s for their record the album, vocalist the singer stated that the act would donate their winnings to the non-profit the charity.

That year, musician the artist split her bounty across a few charities, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I gave a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite told a publication.

In recent years, they gave their winnings to the local youth club that nurtured their group, as well as other independent music bodies.

Also 1994 winners M People contributed their winnings to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was identified with the condition.

"The victory was quite enough," remarked artist Small. "The prize was the extra but we didn't require the extra, because we had the cake. So our success impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had saved two grassroots venues in that region, by placing them under public stewardship.

One venue in that area and The Croft in Bristol were purchased under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is funded by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who purchase "ownership units" in the buildings.
